Apple will be launching the iPhone 15 series, iOS 17, Apple Watch, and other products at “Wonderlust” on September 12 in San Francisco’s Apple Park.
The Verge has reported that the tech giant is expected to introduce the iPhone 15 lineup with a USB-C port, replacing Apple’s Lightning connector.
Apple may also reveal the release dates for iOS 17 and watchOS 10 at its upcoming event.
The USB-C port is expected to be available on all iPhone 15 models, but according to Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, only the Pro and Pro Max will experience faster data transfer rates.
The premium models will both have ports that are USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3, while the base iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will only have USB 2.0 ports.
The ability to charge up to 35W on certain Apple iPhone 15 models is expected to result in faster charging.
Ross Young, a supply chain analyst, predicted in the previous year that the Dynamic Island would be included in all iPhone 15 models. The new iPhone lineup is expected to feature an ultra-wideband chip.
The report also said that iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are rumoured to have slimmer bezels, a titanium frame and an aluminium chassis similar to the iPhone 14 but easier to repair.
A17 chips that are built using the 3nm process may be present in iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, while the A16 chips used in the iPhone 14 Pro are expected to be found in newer iPhones.
The latest smartwatch model from Apple is expected to be unveiled alongside the iPhone 15, with minimal modifications.
Reports indicate that the new Apple Watch Ultra will retain its original size of 49mm and have a darker titanium case, but it is expected to sport an upgraded S9 processor in the Watch Series 9.
Apple is not the only company to have incorporated USB-C technology, as noted by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Kuo predicted that AirPods would be released in 2022 with a USB-C charging case. However, it remains uncertain whether Apple will make any significant changes to the Airpods or not.
The report indicated that Apple is expected to announce a few more items at the iPhone 15 event, including new Macs and iPads, which are typically announced in October.
