Lane County’s Lookout Fire is experiencing a rapid increase in activity.

The Lookout Fire in Lane County is visible from the Tokatee Golf Course, revealing a smoke column on August 13, 2023 (Inciweb).

According to Oregon State Fire Marshal Mariana Ruiz-Temple, the Lookout Fire has been rapidly spreading due to the dry and windy conditions in Lane County.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office has issued evacuation notices for homes near the fire on Level 1 and Level 2 levels, and Red Flag Warnings have been posted.

The Emergency Conflagration Act was announced by Governor Tina Kotek to expedite the deployment of firefighters and equipment to combat the blaze, which has now spread across 195 acres.

Kotek determined that the fire was a greater threat than what could be done by the local firefighters, and dispatched the state fire marshal, as well as equipment, to help coordinate response with the nearby firefighters.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office will take charge of managing the Lookout Fire with task forces from various locations.
