Officials in Pennsylvania have retrieved five bodies from the basement of a house that was destroyed during an explosion.

The cause of the explosion, which caused extensive damage to multiple homes, remains uncertain.

Five bodies were found in the rubble of an apparent house explosion in Pennsylvania, where search and rescue teams had been working.

During a press conference on Sunday afternoon, officials reported that the explosion that occurred in Allegheny County on Saturday morning led to the destruction of multiple homes.

The debris was used to recover the remains of four adults and one teenager, as reported by officials.

According to officials, three individuals were injured in the incident and taken to nearby hospitals. Two have been released while one is still in critical condition on Sunday.

According to officials, 57 firefighters were treated for “minor issues” during the initial response and all resumed their work that day.

The cause of the explosion is unknown, and the investigation is expected to be slow and long, according to officials. A spokesperson for the gas company stated that pressure and smell tests conducted in the area have confirmed that the system was functioning as intended during the blast.

Allegheny County officials reported that a 911 call was made at 10:22 p.m. regarding exploding house and igniting of the home.

Allegheny County representative Amie Downs reported that one house seems to have caught fire, while two others were also in flames.

Three buildings have been destroyed, and another twelve are missing, with windows blown out and debris scattered throughout the lawns and street in the area.

People were found under debris by first responders, as reported by Downs. Severe weather conditions in the area caused a stoppage in recovery efforts on Saturday afternoon.

The occurrence of the fire is being investigated by the police, as stated by Steve Imbarlina, the assistant chief for Allegheny County emergency services.

The incident took place in the Plum borough of the Pittsburgh metropolitan region. Footage taken at the location revealed several burning houses in Rustic Ridge.

In the immediate aftermath of the explosion, residents of Plum borough were advised to stay away from Rustic Ridge.

Downs reported that the crew was attempting to put out structures in close proximity and secure gas lines.

Eighteen fire departments were dispatched to the location, and it is still active. The Allegheny County Emergency Management officials and the Allegeny county Fire Marshals are present at the scene.

A woman who filmed a game at the municipal baseball fields shortly after 10:20 p.m. posted the footage on Facebook, which captured the explosion’s boom just under ten miles away.

About 18 miles to the east of Pittsburgh lies Plum.
