A massive Banyan tree from India, which is 150 years old, is struggling to survive the deadly wildfires that have swept through Maui. The harvesting event was held on the 50th anniversary of the first American protestant missionary in Lahaina, a significant event that has forever changed the course of La Hainani’s history.
According to lahainatown.com, the Banyan tree in Lahaine, Hawaii, was planted in 1873 and measured 46-trunk, but it was only a few feet tall as an 8-foot sapling.
According to the report, Lahaina’s harvest was influenced by the 50th anniversary of the first American protestant missionary in the area, which was an enormous event that had a lasting impact on its destiny.
One of the largest banyan trees in the United States, this tree was planted along Front Street and grew to an impressive height of over 60 feet. It was imported from India and is one of many such trees, as reported by gohawaii.com.
CNN news reports describe the historic town of Lahaina as a state of complete destruction, with everything in the town centre being completely destroyed. The fires have left little or no vegetation on the huge banyan tree, which is very valuable.
This year in April, the banyan tree marked its 150th anniversary.
Although it has not been burned, pictures show the tree still standing and in good condition. The town’s website stated that the trunk of the fallen fir would probably grow back if its roots were healthy.
Theo Morrison, executive director of Lahaina Restoration Foundation, told the BBC: “It’s pretty hard to kill a banyan tree.
“I wouldn’t be able to tell, otherwise,” she declared.
The Hawaii Tourism Authority stated that the tree, with its sweeping branches and vines, has been a significant landmark in Lahaina, providing refreshing shade to locals and tourists for many years.
Events and art exhibits have frequently taken place beneath its shade.
According to the Lahaina Restoration Foundation, the tree has 46 major trunks and covers almost 26% of an acre.
The Maui County Arborist Committee is responsible for maintaining the arbor’s health and shape, as stated in a CNN report.
At least 55 people have lost their lives due to the devastating wildfires on Maui, which also claimed the lives of thousands more.
