During the process of electing a special purpose grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia, on May 2, 2022, Funton County District Attorney Fani Willis interacts with aides during the investigation into the actions of former President Donald Trump and his supporters who attempted to reverse the 2020 election.
NBC News reported that the Atlanta prosecutor overseeing the investigation into potential crimes committed by Donald Trump in an attempt to overturn Georgia’s loss in the 2020 presidential election will present her case to a grand jury next week.
The former president could be indicted on state charges by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who presented the case.
He has been charged in a criminal case four times since March, and it would be the second time that he has faced charges related to his efforts to prevent President Joe Biden’s presidency.
During a speech on Tuesday in New Hampshire, Trump expressed his belief that he would be indicted in Georgia shortly.
“Four more are expected to arrive by next week,” Trump declared.
He labeled Willis, the first Black woman to be Fulton DA, as a “young racist” in Atlanta.
Along with Trump, Willis is suspected of pursuing several of the former president’s associates for potential criminal charges.
NBC has been in touch with three individuals who received subpoenas to attend a grand jury hearing in Fulton County Superior Court, where officials have been intensifying security measures in recent days.
The former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan and former Democratic state Sen. Jen Jordan have revealed that they were not informed of their testimony’s appearance within 48 hours, as reported by the panel on Wednesday.
Willis has announced that she will present her case before Sept. 1, and it may take a few days for the prosecutor to present evidence to the grand jury.
The DA has been investigating Trump since early 2021 for his and his supporters’ attempts to pressure Georgia officials to take actions that could potentially undermine Biden’s electoral gains in the state in 2020. Georgia was one of the swing states that gave Bidan his margin of victory in this election.
