The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) election has been suspended.
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) election, which was supposed to take place on July 6 and 11 had been postponed to tomorrow by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), but the Punjab and Haryana High Court has put the matter on hold.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a six-time BJP MP and former WFI chief, was accused of trying to control the federation through proxies by his supporters on July 31, who were 18 in number.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had originally scheduled the WFI election for July 6, but it was postponed to tomorrow.
Mr Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment by prominent women wrestlers, declared that his family will not stand for the national sports governing body election, but highlighted that almost 25 state associations are in favor of his group.
Six renowned wrestlers, including Olympic and Asian medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshee Malikkh, as well as former Indian army officer Vinesh Phogat, have accused BJP MP of sexual harassment during a protest held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
Mr Singh is not permitted to compete as he has served as the head of the federation for 12 years, which is the maximum duration allowed by the National Sports Code.
The sexual harassment case in Mr Singh led to regular bail being granted by a Delhi court on July 20.
